SAORI WEAVING

PASHMINAS
Kathleen Macdonald
Kathleen Macdonald is a fiber artist whose work as a Saori weaver incorporates a lively, joyful use of color and texture. A writer and journalist by trade, Macdonald began her fiber art journey several years ago as a lace knitter and a traditional weaver. While a student at the Fiber Arts Studio in Stonington, Connecticut, she was introduced to the world of freestyle Saori weaving, a Japanese art form in which students are encouraged to explore their artistic selves in the textiles they create.
With no rules or restrictions, Saori takes the discipline of weaving to new artistic heights. Thread becomes paint, texture creates dimension and form introduces light and motion. As Macdonald notes, “Every time I sit down at my loom, I embark on a new journey and am excited by the possibilities it holds.”
